In this ideation session, I met with a friend and my brother to select an draft idea for the future application.
Both were in agreement that I select this idea:
A collaborative workspace that connects all levels of the company in order communicate problems and sales complications that occur at the business to consumer branch of the company. This application would include a forum for discussion and a space for data sharing.
After looking at the idea, my brother claimed that he could not conceptualize this idea, so I listed the five “W questions” and “How?” in order to better understand the purpose and the function of the application.
From this, I concluded that the target audience was not established clearly enough, the function and purpose (what and why) needed to be further clarified, and the method of execution this purpose and function (how) was identified but needed to be expanded.
After trying to clarify the application draft, I discovered that the description was not clear enough and that It would be necessary to make a new one.
In order to get a new and clearer draft idea, I asked the same “five W questions” and “How?” again, and answered them with the help of my ideation consultants. They helped me answer the questions in terms of how the app should function.
These are the conclusions that we made:
The application is intended for the hourly associates of lower level franchise
The application should permit communication between and to various branches, with the option to skip over certain branches
The application can be accessed on any smartphone or iPad and would be accessible to all members of the company
It is implied that the application can be accessed whenever
How the application meets the unmet need was divided into four actions that would become the sub level screens:
Forums and Discussion Boards
After clarifying these ideas, we were able to create a better app draft:
“A collaborative workspace that connects the employees in the lower levels to members of corporate and each other, for the purpose of better communication on sales, store operations, and business practices. The app would provide discussion boards, data sharing, private messaging and screen sharing, which could be accessed by al members of the company”.
Upon further discussion with my Professor, the application draft was further specified in order to emphasize the communication component of the application:
“A collaborative communication application that connects the employees in the lower levels to members of corporate and each other, for the purpose of better communication on sales, store operations, and business practices. The app would provide discussion boards, data sharing, private messaging and screen sharing, which could be accessed by al members of the company”.
After creating this new idea, we were able to clearly specify the unmet need of the group and the intended audience:

The functionality of this draft can be expressed in the four sub level screens of communication:
These four sub levels include a Discussion Board, Private Messaging, Data Sharing, Screen Sharing
– Would function like a blog
– Main post with comments
– “Share” button that allows concerns and discussions to be sent directly to corporate
– Allows you to skip a level of corporate in order to complete an agenda
– Provided in application, but also linked to email so that information is recieved
– Allows lower level franchises to share daily store operation data by typing the store number into the application
– would share data like schedules, inventory, labor, sales, discount records, ect.
– Allows members of the upper branches to “check on” the data and discussions of the lower branches
– Can also be done between the lower levels
